Veterans Day: A Message from our very own Veteran!
By Mark Skorzewski, HRBOOST® Business Development Leader
Veterans Day, a federal holiday on November 11th every year, similarly known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day. For many families, this is a day that comes with a heavy heart. Loved ones in the military, veterans themselves, and patriots who support their country; reflecting on service and remembering the fellow soldiers that did not make it home.
Before we continue let’s look back at its inception. President, Woodrow Wilson first declared, Armistice Day for November 11, 1919 saying, “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”
People that are close to me, know that I do not seek attention for anything, let alone, for being a veteran. I prefer to give, lift others up and help in any way I can. That is why, working for HRBOOST® is such an amazing feeling. Coming here, and being part of the HRBOOST® team, I feel some of those very same traits. The willingness to help others is not only a staple for the clients we service, but throughout the organization amongst ourselves. Nicole Martin, our CEO and Founder, makes it not only a point, but the first point in anything that is done in the organization. The unwavering support and desire to do whatever it takes to help and have the absolute best interest of clients and employees alike is unparalleled, in anything I have seen or been a part of.
Passion, is a word that rings true, when you ask people about what drives them to be great and overcome any obstacles they may face. I feel that in HRBOOST®, starting with our CEO and throughout the organization. I believe people should find something that makes work and life a joy, not a chore. Passion, is what drives most veterans, in my personal experience. Someone willingly offering to give up their own life, if need be, for the greater good is the single most selfless act of passion I can think of. In anything we do as human beings, it should be with the intent of making something, or someone better. Sometimes it takes sacrifice, but the place we call home, the family we have and the community we are in is worth that sacrifice.
On this veteran’s day, you might have the day off, or maybe it is just a weekend sale. For me, I would ask that you not go out of your way to thank anyone, but instead help someone, anyone. After all, we volunteered to do this, not for accolades, or attention, but to keep and make a better tomorrow for ALL our families and friends.
Have a wonderful & safe holiday weekend. God bless America!
