The Possibilities with Video are Endless
The world to video is at everyone’s fingertips now! Yet, it seems it is not present on everyone’s website, in their marketing or even fewer use it to attract talent. For years, HRBoost® has used video resources like Sparkhire, a video interviewing platform, which opens employers to talent anywhere. Such tools can work to further screen a person’s ability to use basic technology in their role. This won’t be applicable in all jobs and/or trades but for many service roles or knowledge workers it can expedite the screening process. Futurestep, a Korn Ferry company specializing in recruitment process conducted a survey of 700 executives and found that nearly 75% are using real time video platforms to interview candidates.
Video can make CENTS!
In a SHRM Panel interview, it was shared how video interviewing has become an integral part of the talent acquisition strategy at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. (NPC). “We were experiencing a significant increase in hiring volumes and needed a new approach that would help us to expedite the process, ease the time impact on hiring managers, reduce cost and improve the candidate experience,” explained Teresa Laggini Sankner, head of talent management, organizational development and talent acquisition for NPC. “That’s why we decided to pilot video interviewing.”
Despite some initial hesitation from hiring managers, NPC received positive feedback from them once they had the opportunity to try out video interviewing and see the benefits firsthand, Sankner said. “We have had some impressive results. In the past year, 2,700 video interviews have taken place with a cost-avoidance savings of $475,000 and a reduction in manager interview travel by 220 trips.”
A share such as this one from Teresa Laggini Sanker, shows this isn’t just a fun new tool but it can really impact the bottom line!
Sankner added that candidate feedback has also been positive. “Candidates felt our use of video interviewing demonstrated that NPC is a progressive company in our use of technology,” she said. And this speaks to perception and how a company can be assessed by the talent pool online long before the interview.
More than an Interview Tool
Many companies are using video for more than interviewing.
“Many companies successfully use video to attract the attention of job seekers, convey the culture of the company and demonstrate that the organization is tech-savvy. In a recent meeting I had with a friend to HRBoost, Executive Director, Dave Hunter of Greenroom Productions shared some exciting projects in the healthcare industry using video to ask employees not just why they work in the field but what sparked their interest to work in healthcare in the first place! This is deep and in each interview the talent speaks to something relatable to young talent out there still seeking their career choice and employer. In a tight market, such video online that change the entire feel and perception a company may have about your company.
This speaks to how important presentation quality is. Having a clear, concise message and speaking directly to your audience. Employee Testimonials, messages from Recruiting managers or owners and have a careers page on your site paired with values and transparency on your benefits and anything that helps a candidates see into your employment experience.
Brin McCagg, founder and CEO of RecruitiFi, a talent acquisition technology firm was commented publicly “The traditional boundaries between employers and candidates are beginning to crumble,” McCagg said. “Video and other multimedia have transformed stale careers pages into virtual tours of the company’s facilities, providing a window into their culture.”
Does your Career Site share the Experience?
I recently introduced a friend and client of HRBoost, Gallagher Corporation. Like many, facing the increasing challenges of the marketplace, it has become increasingly important to share the opportunity in a more visual way. We are delighted to share one of the videos from this recent initiative with our audience. Your talent’s voice can be 10X more impactful in speaking to talent attraction. As authenticity can be felt in video. These authentic shares can often go places that typical advertisements can’t reach. This example is an excellent presentation speaking to talent in English and Spanish, and this is done tastefully to inform the talent that the employer is open to bilingual talent. It now lives on their Careers Page and with proper hyperlink shares on social, a job posting, or social share can always redirect back to their career opportunities and application. Consider coming across this as you applied? Wouldn’t you want to work there?
Is Leadership Accessible, Visible and Approachable ONLINE?
Another great tip is getting your leadership into videos that are easy, inexpensive and effective ways to personalize messages. There are so many tools out there we have seen CEO’s have monthly Video messages to team, and special greetings to new hires on their first day! Some lower cost but effective platforms include Loom, and Video by Request from Insight Path.
Video is here to stay. As you consider your budgets for 2023, consider how such an investment in revamping your management teams’ access to tools and resources can help them be the Brand Ambassadors they are in the company but more overtly as Thought Leaders online. Every company fighting for talent attraction and retention can benefit from personalizing their employee experience and communicating proactively with their employer brand!
