Changing Your Reimbursement Method of Payment of Unemployment Costs

Contributed by guest blogger: Carol Gabrielsen, Founder and Owner, Unemployment Consultants, Inc

Government Entities, Educational Institutions, and Non Profits:

In December of each year a Government Entity, Educational Institution, or a Non Profit can change the method of payment of their unemployment costs.  The change is for a minimum of two years.

Government Entities, Educational Institutions, or Non Profits have the option of paying the payroll tax or opting out of the taxing system and choosing to be on the reimbursing method of payment of unemployment costs.

Reimbursing Employers pay only the costs of the unemployment claims that are paid to the past Employees.

If a Government Entity, Educational Institution, or Non Profit chooses to change the method of payment their unemployment costs,  IDES ( Illinois Department Of Employment Security) must be notified in writing by December 31, 2019.
